Samantha Schwarer has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Art Honours (English) degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal. Since leaving university in 1995 she has pursued various career options, all related in some way to her love of language.
After moving to Cape Town in 1996, Samantha worked for public relations and marketing companies before becoming a freelance writer, editor and proofreader. In 2001 she took the post of Librarian at St George's Grammar School, and was tasked with bringing the library into the information age. From 2002 she also took on the role of Marketing Manager for the school, and developed a comprehensive 5-year marketing plan. During this time she also became involved with the school's employment equity committee and assisted with education and training of the estate staff. In 2004 she moved on to work as a Project Manager at Maskew Miller Longman's SA Schools publishing division, and was promoted to Managing Editor within 3 months. She left Maskew Miller Longman in late 2005 when the family decided to return to live in KZN. Since moving back to the Durban area in early 2006, she has been working as a freelance writer, editor and website analyst, developing extensive experience in web writing and usability analysis.
